Hornsea currently run four men's sides. The First Team play in the Humber Premier League which was formed in 2000. The County F.A. had identified the need for a bridge between local and National League football some years ago. In 1999, as part of their Development Plan, the County F.A. emphasised the need to replace the current 'Supply' league with a new dedicated league which would place ground and playing criteria on its Member Clubs, hopefully raising standards, both playing and facilities. In January 2000, the County F.A. invited selected clubs to a meeting to form a new league. With sufficient interest shown, a further meeting was arranged and a constitution drawn up and the name Humber Premier League adopted. The Football Association quickly recognised the League as a Supply League and now, subject to ground requirements, Member Clubs are eligible to enter the F.A.Vase. Now in it's 7th season, the Humber Premier League continues to go from strength to strength. 2005/6 has seen the formation of a new divison, HPL Division One. This division now allows the Humber Premier League to operate promotions and relegations with the aim to further strengthen the playing standard of the league. When Hornsea gained entry to the Humber Premier League three seasons ago as a result of winning the East Riding County Premier League, the second team had to up their standard by three divsions. It is a testament to the quality within the club that they are more than holding their own in County League One. The Third Team also play in Division 5 of the County League. The Veterans are made up of ex Hornsea Town players, all over 35 years of age (some considerably so!) and they whilst not in a competitive league, are a fearsome bunch who win most games against other veterans and would give most lower County league teams a competitive game. |
