HORNSEA TOWN CHARTER STANDARD CLUB
Hornsea Town Football Club has been in existence for over 100 years and was awarded the prestigious FA Charter Mark in 2004, demonstrating it’s commitment to the provision of quality grassroots football in the community. The club is one of the founder clubs of the East Riding County League. The FA Charter Standard Clubs program, supported by FA Community Partner McDonald’s, was launched in February 2001 and is a core component of The FA Football Development program. Its aims being to assist and support grassroots clubs in raising standards of football provision across all ages from mini-soccer through all youth levels up to adult football. The FA, in conjunction with various bodies, has drawn up the following set of criteria for clubs wishing to reach Charter Standard:
· A written constitution
· Self-certified screening of managers, coaches and officials
· All managers to have minimum of FA Junior Team Managers Award & commitment to attend in-service training
· Acceptance and promotion of Codes of Conduct
· Commitment to provide Mini-Soccer opportunities for Under 10’s & promote schools liaison & equal opportunities for all
Clubs that are successful in achieving the Charter Mark get access to a range of benefits. First and foremost is the prestige the award gives to the club and is a benchmark that conveys a quality of standards’ to anyone wishing to become a member.
THE FUTURE OF HORNSEA TOWN
Hornsea Town is looking to build on its playing success and as well increasing the number of football teams it operates to meet the demand, the club is actively seeking to add to the number of pitches and improve the changing and leisure facilities for all of its 4 Adult and 5 Junior teams. The recent refusal of planning permission to turn a farmer’s field at Rolston into two additional football pitches is a major setback and all efforts are now to be focused on finding alternative sites.
In order to achieve that aim, significant funding will need to be raised. ‘Match Funding’ opportunities, as well as Football Development, Sport England and the National Lottery may be available. However, it is vitally important that the club can demonstrate a financial commitment to its cause and as such is looking to raise as much as possible from its own fund raising activities. If successful, this could lead to enough additional grant funding to enable the club to achieve its goals.

The Royal Navy kindly donated money towards rain jackets and jumpers for the season 08/09. Valuating at around £40 a player, Chief Plumb from the Naval careers office in Hull generously compensated for 21 players in the town squad.
