Hornsea Town 3rd Team

The Hornsea Town Thirds came into being in the summer of 2004 to cope with the influx of new talent in to the club. The task of moulding this talent into a team capable of success was Ade “Abe” Cartwright who slowly built up the confidence of the team despite a difficult first season which ended on a high with the epic 3-2 victory over the much fancied Hornsea Town Reserves. Ade passed over the reigns of control to senior player Matthew “The Gaffer” Hackney for the 2005/6 season who took the Thirds onto another level with his youth policy and players such as Joe Palmer. Carl Horth, John Duke, James Bowman, Jack Billam and Mike Cade flourished under his gentle touch. Under his three seasons of leadership, the Thirds exceeded all expectations. After a difficult 2007/8 season Hackney felt his time was up and passed over leadership to Joe Palmer and Carl Horth but after an internal shake-up of the coaching structure of the entire club, they were moved up to take control of the Hornsea Reserves leaving Thirds veterans Jon Cladingboel and Ian Suggitt with the task of keeping charge of the Thirds and hoping the glory of the Hackney years can be tasted once again.
